Seminar on Progressive Jammu - Emphasis on Tourism Sector

In an effort to boost the economic growth in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, especially it's tourism sector, the PHD (Progressive Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu and Director Tourism, Jammu Division Soujanya Sharma, organised a day seminar titled ‘Progressive Jammu: Today and Tomorrow -The Way Forward' held at Hotel Asia.
The J&K Bank and IIFCO-TOKIO General Insurance Company also participated in the seminar and extended their support to the stakeholders and service providers of the sector which aimed to develop a way for improving tourism infrastructure of the region.
The major discussion of the seminar revolved around issues related to infrastructure upgradation, administrative policy making, financing by bankers, safety & security of insurance, outlook of the government agencies for smooth facilitation and development of the region.
Potential investors and business houses from North India were invited by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and industry to suggest ways and their business plans for improving tourism growth in the state. The plans that would boost adventure, leisure, religious and cultural tourism and attract domestic as well as international tourists. The improved tourism infrastructure should make the tourists stay longer and give them reasons to come back.
Among the major investors of northern region, Mr Vibhav Kumar Gaur, Director, VXPLOR & CEO Tourism and Promotions, Proplarity Business Group which is evolving as one of the leading players of Realty sector in North, proposed his business plans to the Government authorities. Mr Gaur laid emphasis on creating Jammu & Kashmir as a brand like other states.
Mr Gaur pinpointed all the major strengths and weakness of the region and ways to improve the tourism in the state. He also stated that Proplarity being the pioneer in concepts of tourism captures large client base including high end urban clubs, leisure, adventure and religious-sports tourism which would be an advantage in an effort to boost tourism. He concluded by focusing on the areas where government and Proplarity can work together to create J&K as a brand.
Ajit Kumar, the founder of Kushigram which is a platform for Social and Green initiatives also announced the launch of its activities in Jammu starting in the month of November. The organization works with the partners and people at grassroots-level on rural, agricultural, cultural, religious, wellness and education tourism.
Among the other stakeholders and service providers were Hoteliers’ Association of Jammu, Tour & Travel Operators’ Association, Hospitality Industry members, Taxi Owners’ Association who participated and presented their business plans in the seminar.
The other eminent speakers at the seminar were Yogesh Lohiya, CMD, IFFCO-TOKIO, Arvind Gupta, Senior VP, J&K Bank, Talat Parwez Rohilla, Director, J&K Tourism, Srinagar, Vikrant Kuthiala, Chairman, J&K Committee, PHD Chamber, Mushtaq Ahmed Chaya, Co-Chairman, J&K Committee, PHD Chamber, SK Sethi, Co-Chairman, Insurance Committee, PHD Chamber etc.
The seminar was a success as it created a serious concern as how J&K can witness rapid growth in their tourism sector and also witnessed large audience gathering.
